We are really proud of how our boys wrestled this weekend Team Finished #8 overall out of 92 teams. We came away with two champions in Stevan Knoblauch 112 lbs with a 5-4 win over Vinny Moita of De lassle and Zach Zimmer with a 3-2 win over a state champion from Choctaw, Ok (also a nice qtr win 10-3 over Fabbian Garica Turlock). What a weekend by our sophmore man child Nikko Reyes-loosing first round to the number #2 seed Ian Roy of Poway(3-2) and battling back 9 matches to place third. On his way back he avenged his loss to Roy of Poway in the Cons. Semis. winning 3-2 Nice Job Reyes! 125lbs Chris Martinez finished 6th on a default. Chris won a thrilling 3-2 match over Gilroy’s Jessie Delgado in the qtrs. (those two alway wrestle a great match) Sophmore 103 Brandon Rodriguez was one match away from placing. Junior Jumoke Hunter 215 was also one match away.

Great Job boys!

Clovis West Wrestling finishes 7th place at the State Tournament

Posted on 18 April 2009 by admin

The mighty golden eagle wrestling team capped off their wrestling season by finishing in a tie for seventh place at the annual California High School State Championships.  The Golden Eagles were led by sophomore sensation, Stevan Knoblauch, who had an outstanding weekend ending with a second place finish.  Junior, Zach Zimmer, capped off his year with another medal as he finished in fourth place.  Also, junior, Chris Martinez, brought home some hardware as he finished what he started last year and claimed that illusive state medal with a fifth place finish.  Clovis West freshman phenom, Nikko Reyes, was one match away from placing as he lost to the champion 3-0, and to the third ranked wrestler in the state who got upset earlier in the tournament 3-1.

Clovis West now looks to the future as they return with five state qualifiers and three state placers.  The Golden Eagles have their sight set on a school fourth state championship.
